I will give you the opportunity of entering into the exhibition space by video. I will ask you to do a few of the following actions. The first action is a reflection on the mode of interaction between physical and virtual reality. Why do we need that physical-digital space? What does it provide, and what it does not? The second action is to look up at the video, and ask yourself the same question. Aesthetically, what form of entertainment is this? Third, a feel for the form of the exhibition space. Look at the video, and see how it has influenced the space. Which part of the space is more alive, the part that you can touch or the part that you can’t touch? What are you looking at now? What is it about? Fourth, a feel for the technology. Where is the space? The monitor? Do you feel that it is more realistic, or more like a dollhouse? The two different views of the exhibition space are a canvas for the changing relationship between the physical and virtual, and the changing relationship between different platforms. On the wall where the flat screen is fixed, the interactive digital painting is the deeper, more visceral engagement of the two. If we look at the two as a whole, the depth of the physical and the surface of the digital, we are able to see how they generate and support each other.
Once you are inside the exhibition space, it is time to walk amongst the eight megastructures. Each structure is a field for the experiment and exploration of this interface. As you walk, ask yourself these same questions, and use the space to answer them. I will be waiting for you in the space with the eight megastructures. -The curatorial concept consists of objects and information that are not directly related to each other. We hope that the works of art can provide a context for the viewer and that they can also be a frame for the viewer’s perception. The intention is to blend two different contexts and perspectives. We strive to create a space that can be viewed from different angles, allowing for various approaches. We want to create a maximum impact within a minimal space. -The digital and virtual space is a kind of playground for us. The interfaces will continue to evolve, and as such, we are able to experiment with different ways of representing information and interacting with the space.
-Sons of NAC is a project that is exploring the ways that the pandemic has changed our perception of identity and corporeality. We are creating a series of pieces that are exploring the ways in which we are existing in virtual space. We will continue to work with some of the other projects from Dreamscape. We are also interested in hearing from NAC members about what they want from a virtual space.
More information will be available as the project continues. We are making much of the work available for viewing online, as both a virtual exhibition and a physical exhibition. Join our mailing list to be one of the first to view the next iteration of Dreamscape. 827ec27edc
