The QuickTime codecs were the first to be made available for testingby almost everyone. Even though we don't support QuickTime anymore,the alternative codecs don't have as wide a test base. That's why we'veadded support for almost all the codecs that QuickTime supports. It'salso a way for us to get tested by the new codecs. As with theQuickTime codecs, a quick review of the media samples included in thetarball should point out things you wish to know about a codec.
In the last few weeks, we have found a number of bugs and we've fixedthem. We also fixed the not-so-uncommon crash that some users of theh.264 codec have been having (thanks to Ross Burton for reporting).Many users have reported that the videos are playing fine with eitherAl3x or Snow, but fail to play with A'rpi. Users of A'rpi will never seethe videos anyway, but it is a bug in the A'rpi codec, we noticed itwhen we modified it to work with the newer QuickTime codecs. It's notquite solved yet, but anyway: users of A'rpi should be using Snow oranother QuickTime codec.
